The Future

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland plans to develop the Atlantic Marine Energy Test Site (AMETS) – a facility focused on wave energy proposed to be located off Annagh Head, west of Belmullet in County Mayo. GRS is working closely with SEAI in a bid to be the first wave energy developer to deploy in this site at a commercial testing scale.

AMETS’ purpose is to test the performance of pre-commercial wave energy devices in extreme open ocean conditions. We envisage this site as an appropriate stepping stone in the development of Power Platform. As seen in both images below, the resource off the Irish coast is one of the richest in the world. Detailed assessments have been undertaken in both bathymetry, geotechnical, planning and environmental assessments, which the GRS Power Platform has been designed to support.
