GRS’ Concept

The unique Power Platform leverages the current level of offshore know-how in the oil and gas sector of structures, foundations, umbilical connections and maintenance.

The Power Platform typically comprises six OWC (Oscillating Water Column) wave energy generators and a wind turbine. A typical configuration consists of:

  • 6 x  1 MW OWC Wave generators
  • 1 x 3 MW Wind Turbine

Each island has a total installed capacity of 9 MW. An offshore installation would include an cluster of six or more Power Platforms, with a single umbilical power cable and water pipe to shore.

An Energy Array of six islands generates up to 54 MW depending on wind and wave conditions – the equivalent of supplying more than 30,000 Australian houses with power for one year.

The Power Platform structure is positioned one to three kilometres offshore and fixed on the seabed in a minimum water depth of 20 to 40m, far from residents’ backyards and the general community.
